How to add an M3U playlist on iPhone (2026 guide)
An M3U playlist is just a text file listing channel names and stream URLs. Any IPTV provider can give you one. Here is how to get it playing on your iPhone in about a minute.
What you need
- An M3U or M3U8 URL from your provider (usually looks like http://host:port/get.php?username=…&type=m3u_plus)
- Optionally, an XMLTV EPG URL for the program guide (ends with .xml or .xml.gz)
- Zaptun installed on your iPhone or iPad
Step 1 – Open Zaptun and choose Add Playlist
On first launch Zaptun shows a short introduction and the paywall. After unlocking, tap Add Playlist. Choose M3U as the type.
Step 2 – Paste the URL
Give the playlist a name, paste the M3U URL and, if you have one, the EPG URL. Tap Save. Zaptun downloads the playlist, groups the channels and starts loading the guide in the background.
Tip: if your provider offers both m3u and m3u_plus, use m3u_plus. It includes logos, groups and EPG IDs.
Step 3 – Watch
Your channels appear grouped by category. Tap a channel to play, swipe up or down to zap, tap the guide icon for the grid EPG. Long-press a channel to add it to favorites or hide it.
Common M3U problems and fixes
- "Invalid playlist": open the URL in Safari. If it downloads a file that doesn't start with #EXTM3U, the link is wrong or expired.
- Channels load but streams fail: your provider may limit simultaneous connections. Close other players and try again.
- No sound on some channels: switch the engine to VLC in the player menu (AC3/EAC3 audio).
- Empty guide: add the XMLTV URL in the playlist's settings, then pull to refresh.
